Client Management Team

At Watkins Ross, each client is assigned a top-level associate who works closely with members of our Client Management Team. This collaborative team based approach utilizes the range and experience of our staff to ensure every client receives the highest level of consultative, actuarial and administrative services.

 

Christian R. Veenstra, MAAA, EA

President
Christian Veenstra is Co-President of Watkins Ross. Chris has been with the firm since 1991 and is credited with building the retiree medical plan division of the company. As Co-President, Chris Veenstra oversees all aspects of Watkins Ross. His leadership and direction ensures the company remains focused on delivering exemplary administrative and consultative services in order to provide clients with comprehensive, well-designed retirement plans. Chris is a member of the American Academy of Actuaries and is an Enrolled Actuary under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974. He has worked in the actuarial and retirement plan benefits field since 1991 and is responsible for valuations and other work related to pension and other postemployment benefit (OPEB) plans, in both private and public sectors. Chris earned his master’s degree in Applied Mathematics from California State University.

David E. Paauwe, MSPA, EA

President
David Paauwe is Co-President of Watkins Ross. Dave has been with the firm since 1999 and is responsible for developing the company’s cash balance plan business. As Co-President, Dave Paauwe oversees all aspects of Watkins Ross. His leadership and direction ensures the company remains focused on delivering exemplary administrative and consultative services in order to provide clients with comprehensive, well-designed retirement plans. Dave is a member of the Society of Pension Actuaries and is an Enrolled Actuary under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974. He has worked in the actuarial and retirement plan benefits field since 1991 and is responsible for valuations and other work related to plans with less than 100 participants. Dave earned his degree in Actuarial Mathematics from the University of Michigan.

Cheryl L. Gabriel, CPC

Consultant
Cheryl Gabriel is a Consultant at Watkins Ross. Cheryl has been with the firm since 1987 and provides analytical and consulting services for qualified defined benefit plans and non-qualified deferred compensation plans. Cheryl assists clients in complying with the laws and regulations applicable to employee benefit plans, with the overall goal of creating plan design and administrative strategies to meet their short and long term business objectives. She has worked in the actuarial and retirement plan benefits field since 1987 and obtained the Certified Pension Consultant (CPC) designation from the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries (ASPPA). Cheryl earned her degree in Mathematics from Hope College.

David Bosch

Consultant
David Bosch is a Consultant at Watkins Ross. David has been with the firm since 1999 and serves as the primary consultant in the ESOP, Defined Contribution and Cash Balance divisions of the company. David is an active member of the ESOP Association and the Michigan Chapter of the ESOP Association. He currently serves as an Associate Member of the ESOP Association’s Administration Advisory Committee as well as serving as President of the Michigan Chapter of the ESOP Association. David is also a member of the Great Lakes TE/GE Council. David specializes in 410(b) coverage and 401(a)(4) nondiscrimination compliance, ESOP administration issues, and creative retirement plan design using both defined contribution and cash balance defined benefit plans. He is a frequent speaker on retirement plan issues and has worked in the retirement plan industry since 1988. David earned his master’s degree in actuarial science from Ball State University.

Leah A. Dudley, MAAA, ASA

Health Actuary
Leah Dudley is a Health Actuary at Watkins Ross. Leah joined the firm in 2016 and provides actuarial services to health care plans. Leah specializes in health plan consulting, COBRA and other health plan pricing, incurred but not paid claim reserve calculations, and benefit comparisons to determine the impact on premiums of changing deductibles, co-pays, and out of pocket maximums. Leah is an Associate Member of the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. She has provided health plan actuarial services since 1990 and earned her master’s degree in Business Statistics from the University of Wisconsin - Madison.

Marianne Evans

Relationship Manager
Marianne Evans is a Relationship Manager at Watkins Ross. Marianne has been with the firm since 2000 and provides consultative, value-based service to clients on our WRight Choice open architecture platform. Marianne develops and maintains relationships with retirement plan clients and investment advisors in order to exceed client service and retention standards. She assists from implementation through ongoing service delivery or contract renewal. Marianne provides solutions to plan needs by working with administration and compliance on outstanding issues, new features available due to product enhancements or changes in legislation. Marianne has worked in the retirement plan industry since 2000 and earned her degree in Economics from Millersville University.

Sheila Freund, QKA

Manager and Compliance Coordinator
Sheila Freund is a Manager and Compliance Coordinator at Watkins Ross. Sheila has been with the firm since 1993 and oversees the defined contribution department. Sheila leads the team of Retirement Plan Administrators responsible for performing a variety of administrative, analytical, and recordkeeping functions; plus serves as consultant on 401(k) plan compliance related issues. Sheila manages team resources to efficiently meet service standards and ensure the defined contribution plans administered by our organization are in compliance with governing law and applicable plan documents. Sheila has worked in the retirement plan industry since 1989 and obtained the Qualified 401(k) Administrator designation (QKA) from the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries (ASPPA). Sheila earned her degree in Mathematics from Grand Valley State University.

Troy A. Schnabel, FCA, MAAA, ASA, EA

Enrolled Actuary
Troy Schnabel is an Enrolled Actuary at Watkins Ross. Troy has been with the firm since 2013 and provides actuarial services to governmental, single employer and multiemployer pension plans. As a pension actuary, Troy oversees all facets of a defined benefit plan’s administration including cost projections, termination studies, and annual valuation reports. He has experience in the insurance and pension fields, and also programs custom applications to better model client’s actuarial results. Troy’s areas of expertise include preparation of mortality studies, asset segmentation studies and asset liability testing. Troy is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries, a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries, a Fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries and is an Enrolled Actuary under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974. He has worked in the actuarial and retirement plan benefits field since 1987 and earned his degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from Augustana College.
